Accident At Agona Swedru, which occurred on Monday 3rd Agust, 2020 involving a Hyundai truck with registration number GE 9351.

The boldness of a Hyundai truck driver to control his vehicle whose brake had failed while descending a hill around the Swedru Main Market, Monday morning averted what could have been a serious accident that could have affected many pedestrians.

The truck with registration number GE 9351 was fully loaded with chippings and cement and was from Kasoa heading towards Akyem Esuboa in the Eastern Region.

The driver of the truck, Ransford Appiah managed to climb the Mandela Market hill but as he was descending the main market hill to join the Swedru-Oda main road at Odakwanano, realized that the breaks of the truck had failed.

The driver, sensing danger due to the fact that it was a market day, started tooting his horn to clear other vehicles and pedestrians off the road to prevent a crash.

Traders who were selling along the streets abandoned their wares and together with pedestrians ran for their lives after they got the signal from the driver who was waving them off the road.

Unfortunately, the vehicle veered off the road and ran into a provisions shop around 9:30 am, injuring six persons who were immediately rushed to the Swedru Government Hospital for medical care.

Confirming the incident to Gilbert Mawuli Agbey Of Graphic Online on Tuesday, August 4, 2020, the Station Officer at the Swedru Divisional Unit of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector Sampson Boamah said that four of the injured were still on admission.

However, he noted that Delali Kwateng Agbenovor, 17, and Godfred Essuon,18, were severely injured and had been transferred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for emergency medical attention.
